Ahoy Brigadiers, glad you made the voyage once again to R World’s Culinary Atolls and Coastee’s Kitchen. Today the Mascot Brigade’s Brigadier General Coastee will be giving us a healthy snack tip, popcorn. Popcorn is not just for the movies, great popcorn can be made at home and even better it can be made to fit any Brigadiers healthy dietary plan.
The key I have found to making great tasting and healthy popcorn is to start with healthy, all natural ingredients. If possible support your local small farmers and find a local source for popcorn, you will be surprised at what treasures are out there if you look hard enough and ask around.
Do your best to make sure the popcorn, as well as any other ingredients are GMO free. Air popping is by far the healthiest means to get those delicious kernels to pop, if air popping is not an option, I have found cooking in coconut oil a yummy and suitable alternative. Palm oil is also an option and will give your popcorn a unique taste.
Flavoring: Of course eating it with no flavoring or salt is the heathiest, however I often dribble some real butter (not margarine or artificial substitutes) and sprinkle sea or Himalayan salt to give it an authentic ‘movie theatre’ taste. Personally I, as well as most Mascot Brigade Brigadiers, are not fans of microwavable options and believe that ‘convenience’ also has a price and usually it is inferior ingredients.
I know this is not necessarily the popular choice but we are Pirates after all. Well there you have it, Coastee’s Kitchen covering Popcorn of all things. After you go back to the playground, why not make a bowl, grab a large glass of water and watch a classic movie. I highly recommend the original Planet of the Apes with Charlton Heston. Till next time, Go Play! -Coastee
